Counseling For Teens, Adults & Couples in Fort Lauderdale & Coral Springs
Counseling Services for Adults:
Individual therapy for adults offers a range of valuable benefits that can significantly contribute to your personal growth, emotional well-being, and overall improved quality of life. Below are some of the types of challenges that I help adults overcome.
Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, so the modality used during our sessions will vary based on your unique needs and presenting concerns. I believe in meeting clients where they are, and I draw from a wide range of therapeutic approaches to tailor each session.
For individual sessions, I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition, I often use Gestalt Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, among others. Depending on your needs, we might stick with one approach or incorporate multiple modalities throughout treatment to ensure the most effective and personalized care.
Major Life Changes: Adults often seek support during significant life transitions such as job changes, relocation, break ups, marriages, and/or parenthood.
Depression & Anxiety: Many adults seek therapy to address symptoms of depression or anxiety, such as persistent sadness, worry, or panic attacks.
Stress Management: High levels of stress from work, relationships, or life changes can lead individuals to seek coping strategies and stress management techniques.
Loss & Grief: Coping with the death of a loved one, whether recent or past, is a common reason for seeking therapy.
Self-Exploration & Personal Growth: Some adults engage in therapy to explore and understand their identity, enhance self-esteem, and work on personal growth.
Finding Purpose: Individuals may seek therapy to explore their life's purpose, meaning, and direction so they can experience greater fulfillment in life.
Traumatic Experiences & PTSD: Adults who have experienced trauma, abuse, or significant life-threatening events may seek therapy to process and heal from the effects of such experiences.
Addiction: Therapy is often sought for assistance with overcoming addictions, whether related to substances, behaviors, or unhealthy patterns.
Faith Based Counseling Services:
Ultimately, faith-based counseling can offer you the opportunity to address your mental health and relational concerns while incorporating the spiritual dimension of your life. It can provide a holistic approach that resonates with those seeking to integrate their faith into the therapeutic journey.
Integration of Faith & Mental Health: Individuals who value their faith and spirituality often seek counseling that integrates these beliefs. Faith-based counseling allows you to address mental health concerns while drawing on their religious or spiritual framework.
Spiritual Guidance & Support: Seeking guidance from a therapist who shares your faith can allow you to explore your challenges through a spiritual lens. You may find comfort and support in discussing your concerns with someone who understands and respects your religious beliefs.
Grief & Loss: During times of grief and loss, individuals may seek faith-based counseling to find solace and understanding within their spiritual beliefs. This approach can provide comfort and a sense of connection to something larger than yourself.
Marital & Relationship Concerns: Partners may seek faith-based couples counseling to address relationship challenges while incorporating their shared religious values. This can include communication issues, conflicts, or the desire to strengthen the spiritual foundation of your partnership.
Moral & Ethical Dilemmas: Individuals facing moral or ethical dilemmas may turn to faith-based counseling for guidance in aligning their decisions with their religious beliefs. This process can help you navigate complex situations within a spiritual context.
Addiction & Recovery: Faith-based counseling can play a role in addiction recovery by providing you with a supportive environment that aligns with their spiritual values. It may involve incorporating faith-based principles into the recovery process.
Stress & Anxiety: Individuals experiencing stress and anxiety may seek faith-based counseling to find comfort in their faith and explore ways to manage their emotional well-being within a spiritual context.
Sense of Purpose & Meaning: Some individuals seek faith-based counseling to explore questions of purpose and meaning in their lives. This can involve discussions about spiritual growth, fulfillment, and living in alignment with your faith.
Reconciliation & Forgiveness: Faith-based counseling may provide a space for you to explore reconciliation and forgiveness, drawing on spiritual or religious teachings to guide the process of healing and letting go.
Couples Counseling Services:
Couples counseling can provide a structured and supportive environment for couples to explore, understand, and address the challenges they face, ultimately fostering healthier and more satisfying relationships.
It’s important to note that timelines of couples therapy may vary, and the structure can be flexible depending on the couples needs, but it will always be goal oriented, and research based. Here are a few of the areas that I help couples better navigate:
Relationship Satisfaction: Even in relatively healthy relationships, couples may seek counseling to enhance overall satisfaction, deepen their connection, and learn new skills to sustain a fulfilling partnership.
Communication Issues: Difficulty communicating effectively is a frequent reason couples seek counseling. This can include misunderstandings, frequent arguments, or feeling unheard.
Conflict Resolution: Couples may struggle with managing and resolving conflicts in a healthy manner. Counseling can provide tools and techniques to address disagreements more constructively.
Intimacy & Connection: A lack of intimacy, emotional connection, or physical closeness can prompt couples to seek counseling. Therapists can help them explore ways to rekindle and deepen their connection.
Trust & Betrayals: Infidelity, breaches of trust, or unresolved issues from the past can erode trust in a relationship. Couples counseling provides a structured environment to address trust-related concerns.
Emotional Disconnect: Over time, couples may feel emotionally distant or disconnected. Counseling can assist in identifying the underlying issues and rebuilding emotional intimacy.
Strengthening Relationship Skills: Some couples seek counseling as a proactive measure to strengthen their relationship skills, improve communication, and prevent potential issues from escalating.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy Informed Approach: I have completed Level 1 Clinical Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and the Gottman Method research-based approach will be used in our couples therapy. The session layout may look like something like this:
Session 1: A joint session with both partners present. This session is scheduled for an hour and a half, to assure there’s enough time for a thorough introduction to Gottman Method couples therapy, to review expectations, and for the couple to discuss their relationship history, to identify problems/concerns, and to explore and discuss goals.
Session 2 and 3: Individual interviews, or sessions, where each partner will meet with me and have an opportunity to share their own individual background, histories, stressors, concerns, goals, and assessment of their relationship.
Session 4: After the individual sessions, we’ll have another joint session where I’ll provide feedback based on assessments completed and information gathered during the individual interviews. Strengths/limitations may be highlighted, goals may be reviewed and/or modified, and ultimately, a collaborative roadmap for therapy will be created.
Ongoing sessions: Remaining couples therapy sessions will be joint sessions with both partners present. These sessions will focus on addressing goals and problems previously identified. Practical tools, psychoeducation, written assessments, pointed exercises, assignments, quizzes, worksheets, interventions, and activities will be introduced and used in various ways throughout the remainder of the therapy process depending on the specific needs of each couple.
Family Therapy Services for Adults:
Family therapy for adult family members emphasizes the interconnectedness of family members and addresses issues within the context of the family system. Family counseling for adult family members promotes improved understanding, communication, and collaboration to create a more harmonious and resilient family unit.
Communication Breakdown: Families may experience difficulties in communication, leading to misunderstandings, conflicts, or a general breakdown in effective interaction. Family therapy helps improve communication patterns and strengthen connections.
Conflict Resolution: Families may face persistent conflicts or unresolved issues that create tension and strain relationships. Family therapy provides a structured space to address conflicts, identify their root causes, and work towards resolution.
Improving Family Dynamics: Families may seek therapy to enhance overall family dynamics, strengthen connections, and foster a healthier and more supportive environment for all members.
If any of the above categories resonate with you as an individual, couple or family unit, I’m here to help you achieve your goals. Let's make it happen together.
My Story
My journey to becoming a therapist traces back to my own experiences with trauma, grief, and loss. The passing of my father during my childhood compelled me to seek understanding, not just about my own grief, but also about the complexities within my own family.
In addition, growing up in the culturally rich suburbs just outside of NYC exposed me to a diverse melting pot. The stark differences among my friends - in demographics, cultures, and upbringing - fueled my early curiosity about the intricacies that shape each person's unique life. These experiences ignited a deep curiosity to understand the 'why' behind human behavior.
From early on, questions started flooding my mind. Why do people turn to substances? What determines motivation? Why are some individuals more prone to abusive behavior? How does addiction develop? Where does one learn self esteem? How do we acquire labels and identities? Why do siblings raised in the same household turn out so differently? How does spirituality influence one’s development? My quest for answers wasn't just about academic interest; it was fueled by a genuine desire to comprehend the intricacies of human existence.
Overall, the nexus of my traumas, eclectic life experiences, natural curiosity, and innate disposition to help others, formed the foundation for my career as a therapist. I possess an inherent ability to listen intently, coupled with a strong desire to understand people beyond the surface. My fascination lies not just in our connections but also in the exploration of our differences.
As a therapist, my mission is deeply rooted in caring for the well-being of others. I believe in creating a safe space for clients to explore their "whys" and navigate the complexities of their lives. Through empathy, openness, genuine concern, and a commitment to be truly present with my clients, I aim to guide others towards self-discovery, healing, and a more fulfilling life. Nothing brings me greater joy and fulfillment than witnessing my client’s triumph, succeed, and achieve their goals.
My Background in
Counseling & Psychology
I am a seasoned mental health therapist with over a decade of experience working with clients. My passion for helping others began in childhood and has evolved into a fulfilling career.
Holding a Bachelor's in Psychology from Penn State (We Are!) and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College, I've contributed to working in diverse mental health settings, including an inpatient psychiatric unit, inpatient and outpatient rehab, detox centers, private practices, crisis hotlines, grassroots community mental health clinics, and even as a mental health court liaison with men on parole in NYC.
Licensed in both New York and Florida, I've been conducting virtual private practice therapy for six years, predating the COVID era. Additionally, I've had the enriching experience of studying abroad in the vibrant city of Barcelona which helped to enhance my cross-cultural understanding. I’ve been featured in Cosmopolitan magazine and I've also had the privilege of serving as a guest speaker on various podcasts, addressing all things mental health.

My life motto and guiding principle is 'Joie De Vivre,' a French phrase translating to the 'joy of living.' Beyond its literal meaning, it signifies my commitment to embracing each day with joy, presence, positivity, happiness, and gratitude. For me, it's not just a phrase; it's a way of living.

I’m obsessed with my dog-son, Droegon. He’s a 5 year old Maltese, and he took after his mom (me) because he truly has healing powers. I’m happy to tell you more about his healing powers in our therapy session if you’re interested. He’s named after the main dragon (Drogon) to the Queen Khalessi on Game of Thrones. He is the Droegon to my Khalessi. I’m also obsessed with Game of Thrones.

I love God, my family, my friends, music, traveling, spas, yoga, sunsets, sleep, and Real Housewives (lol). This year, I plan to travel to 3 new countries, which will put me at visiting country number 36! My goal is to make it to 50 total countries in the next 6 years. I’m open to all suggestions!
